Polar bears in the Immersive Lab: looking back on the AI video workshop

On March 13, you gathered en masse in our research lab for a workshop on generative AI for video. Researchers Karen Pauwels and Jeroen Cluckers treated attendees to an overview of the available tools, practical prompt tips, and a challenging assignment.

The perfect prompt

Prompting is an art that our researchers explore every day. For a successful cinematic result, Karen recommends the following prompt structure as a guideline:

· MEDIUM: Cinematic film, animation, 2D animation,…

· STYLE: Action film, dramatic film, style by (filmmaker),…

· SCENE: Who is your subject? Where are we?

· ACTION: What is happening in the scene? (Walking, talking, pacing,…)

· EFFECTS: Are there any additional effects that determine the atmosphere of the scene? (rain, fog, etc.)

This results in a prompt such as this: “Cinematic scene, dramatic film, a young fisherman on a boat, looking longingly at the woman he loves, rain falling.”

Let’s get started… with polar bears and fans!

Selling fans to polar bears requires the same imagination and persuasiveness as selling ice cream to Eskimos, but you threw yourselves into this absurd assignment with gusto: a promotional video for Silvercrest fans targeting polar bears. Here is a compilation of your creations:

Our Immersive Lab jury was impressed by your enthusiasm (the Runway counter stood at 186 generated videos by the evening!) and particularly charmed by this polar bear with a waving mane. Mind. Blown. Indeed.
